The unincorporated community of Mount Forest is located in the Wellington North Township in Ontario Province roughly two hours north and west of Toronto (142 km, 88 mi.). As of the most recent [Canadian] census dated 2011, there was just over 5,000 residents in Hanover. Due to its location along the Saugeen River, this colourful quaint community was originally the Saugeen Ojibway people’s main hunting grounds prior to being settled in the 1800’s.
Mount Forest was originally founded and settled as Maitland Hills , but the name was changed to what it still is today in 1853. Despite being amalgamated into the new Wellington North Township at the beginning of 1999, it still maintains its separate identity. Mount Forest has a surprisingly positive and stable economy considering its size. But the town’s business district features a wide range of businesses and services ranging from the accommodations, hospitality, and dining niches to restaurants and retail grocers.
